Christening of Princess Estelle: The Crown and the Order

Photobucket
The Prince Oscar crown was used during the christening of HRH Princess Estelle of Sweden, Duchess of Östergötland.

The Prince Oscar crown  was made in 1844 to the then Prince Oscar (II) before his father's (future Oscar I) coronation. The crown jewels were taken from the Treasury. After several crowns were manufactured in the 1700s, the collection of loose gems and pearls as reduced significantly, which is why, for example, Spires 32 infattade gems are cut in half. Stones were also chosen from Erik XIV's Crown and from Gustav II's Epaulette.

Crown structure differs in detail from the ordinary with a vase at the center front instead of a scepter. The location of this is according to heraldic rules only for the Crown Prince's crowns. The crown has been selected because it's a Bernadotte Crown, and because the future King Oscar II was the Duke of Östergötland.
