The table setting
The table of honour is decorated with étagères and candelabras, burnished bronzes dating from the 19th century, and with pink and white early summer flowers such as peonies, sweet peas, garden roses, lady's mantle and columbines.

The flowers

A large garland of birch leaves is suspended from the ceiling, with hanging arcs of pink flowers. The flowers at the table of honour are arranged in burnished bronzes from the Royal Collections. Behind the bride and groom is a backdrop of pale pink peonies, hydrangeas and cow parsley.

Glassware

The glassware was given to The King and Queen on the occasion of their wedding in 1976 by the Riksdag and the Government.

Silver chargers

The chargers used at the top table were commissioned by King Karl XIV Johan, while the others date back to the late 18th century and were probably commissioned by King Adolf Fredrik and Queen Lovisa Ulrika and by King Gustav III.

The first course

The plates feature the monogram of King Gustaf V and the Swedish emblem of three crowns. They were made by Rörstrand in 1910.

The cutlery was commissioned by Queen Désirée, the first Bernadotte queen. They feature the monogram EBD (Eugenia Bernhardina Desideria), and are gold-plated. They were made in Stockholm around 1830-40.

The fish course

The Rosenthal Monbijou plates feature a green floral motif. Late 20th century.

The cutlery is the well-known Swedish design Olga. The forks are Swedish, and were made in the mid-1800s, while the knives in the same design were commissioned by King Gustaf VI Adolf in the 1950s.

The meat course

The plates are decorated with the wording “Drottningholms slott" (“Drottningholm Palace") and a royal crown, and were made by Rörstrand in 1910.

The cutlery was commissioned by Queen Josefina, and the design is called Prince Albert.

Dessert

The dishes feature a motif of butterflies and flowers, and are marked KPM (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin), 19th century.

The table linen

The table linen consists of Klässbols tablecloths and napkins that are more than a hundred years old, woven from damask. Approximately 640 m² of linen has been used for the wedding banquet at Drottningholm.

The napkins were woven in 1891, in Lille in France, by the Lemaitre Demestre & Fils textile factory, which was situated on the Place de la Gare at 19 Rue de Baisses. The pattern features the coat of arms of the Swedish-Norwegian union, woven into the middle of the napkin.

All 500 napkins are from the Union Linen. In 1891, there were 999 napkins. 919 of these are still used, thanks to the Linen Chamber's careful treatment. Damask is mangled according to old traditions. The process consists of 18 different stages, from stain removal and laundering to folding, mangling and rolling. The linen is stored in a cool storeroom for at least three months before being used again, so that the fibres can rest and return to their correct form.

The 45 Fru Embla tablecloths feature a simple pattern, providing an elegant background for the table settings. They were commissioned from Klässbols. The fabric is linen.

Wedding M&C: The Bride

Photobucket
The Swedish Royal family released information about the wedding dress, tiara and bouquet of HRH Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland, for her wedding to Christopher O’Neill.

The Wedding Dress
Princess Madeleine's wedding dress was created by the Italian designer Valentino Garavani. The wedding dress is made from pleated silk organza with appliquéd ivory-coloured Chantilly lace. The upper section of the bodice is lace with a deep-cut back. Narrow vertical pleats open up from the accentuated waist, above the wide skirt, which ends with a four-metre-long train.

The veil is also silk organza, and is edged with tulle scatted with point d'esprit dots and small Chantilly lace orange blossom. The Princess's shoes are ivory white organdy with woven point d'esprit dots.
The Princess's tiara is privately owned, decorated with sprigs of orange blossom.
The Princess's hair and make-up are by Rick Ljung and Sara Denman.

The bridal bouquet
Princess Madeleine's bridal bouquet consists of classic white garden roses: Austin roses, Schneewittchen, Winchester Cathedral and Alabaster, as well as lilies of the valley and the traditional myrtle from Sofiero. All the flowers are white, and the bouquet is tied into a round shape.

Myrtle worn in the hair or used in the bridal bouquet
Princess Margareta, who married Gustaf (VI) Adolf in 1905 in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in England, brought a myrtle bush to Sweden with her. The bush grew and was originally tended at Sofiero Palace. It is now at Ulriksdal Palace. Since 1935, a sprig from this bush has traditionally been used in royal bridal bouquets or worn in the hair in some form. Princess Ingrid, who married the Danish heir to the throne in 1935, took a cutting from the bush to her new home country. Since then, the Danish Royal Family has upheld the same tradition, using myrtle from Princess Margareta's original bush.

The crown was made in Stockholm in 1778 by an unknown maker. The crown is made from gold with engraved decoration, and is set with pearls and precious stones. The current cap is dark blue satin silk with gold leaf decoration, and was made in the 19th century.

The crown is placed on a cushion from the wedding of King Gustav IV Adolf and Fredrika Dorotea Wilhelmina in 1797.

Wedding M&C: Flower decorations

Photobucket
Flower decorations for the wedding of HRH Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland, and Christopher O’Neill inspired by early summer in Sweden and give an impression of a summer meadow.

The colour scheme for the decorations is light green, white and pink, using beech leaves, cow parsley, pink and white peonies, white lilacs, foxgloves, delphiniums and lilies of the valley.

The Royal Chapel
The South Gate is decorated with beech leaves, with early summer flowers such as cow parsley and peonies beneath them. A light green carpet leads from the South Gate into the Royal Chapel.

The carpet covers the aisle in the chapel. Columns of lily of the valley leaves crowned with bouquets of lily of the valley are tied to the pew ends. The windows are decorated as bed of flowers, with beech leaves, white delphiniums, pink peonies, pink foxgloves and cow parsley.

The altar is decorated with delphiniums, pink peonies, pink sweet peas and foxgloves, together with Canterbury bells and miniature beech trees. In front of the altar are silver vases containing lilies of the valley.

The outside of the South Gate is decorated with beech leaves.

The floral arrangements have been created by the Royal Court's florist Claes Carlsson. A team of some 50 florists from Sweden put the finishing touches to the decorations the evening before the wedding day.

Love Divine, all loves excelling,
joy of heaven, to earth come down.
Fix in us Thy humble dwelling,
all Thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, Thou art all compassion
pure unbounded love Thou art.
Visit us with Thy salvation,
enter every trembling heart.

Come, Almighty, to deliver,
let us all Thy life receive.
Suddenly return, and never,
never more Thy temple leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
serve Thee as Thy hosts above,
pray and praise Thee, without ceasing,
glory in Thy perfect love.

Finish then Thy new creation,
pure and spotless let us be.
Let us see Thy great salvation,
perfectly restored in Thee,
changed from glory into glory,
till in heaven we take our place,
till we cast our crowns before Thee,
lost in wonder, love and praise!

The Address to the Bridal Couple

Hymn 201
By C.D. af Wirsén (1842-1912); music: W. Åhlén (1894-1982); translation:  Carolyn and Kenneth Jennings
The earth adorned in verdant robe
sends praises upward surging,
while soft winds breathe on fragrant flowers
from winter now emerging.
The sun shines bright,
gives warmth and light
to budding blossoms tender,
proclaiming summer´s splendour.
From out the wood the birds now sing,
and each its song now raises,
to join with all the Universe
in voicing thankful praises.
With hope and joy
their songs employ
a rapturous exultation
in praise of God´s creation.
O God, amid these joys of life
Creation´s glory beaming,
grant us the grace to keep Your word
and live in love redeeming.
All flesh is grass,
the flowers fade,
and time is fleeting ever;
God´s word remains forever..
