Prince William to be Patron of the University of St. Andrews 600th Anniversary Appeal

HRH Prince William of Wales has become Patron of the University of St. Andrews 600th Anniversary appeal.

The University of St. Andrews 600th Anniversary will span three calendar years from 2011 to 2013. It will mark the formal charter granted by Bishop Henry Wardlaw in February 1411 and the achievement of full university status conferred by Pope Benedict XIII by Papal Bull in 1413.

St. Andrews alumnus Prince William, accompanied by his fiancée, Miss Catherine Middleton, also a St. Andrews alumna, will return to the University on February 25, 2011, to launch its 600th Anniversary.


Prince William and Miss Middleton first met at the University of St. Andrews, from where they both graduated in 2005.

On entry to St. Andrews, Prince William studied Art History, Social Anthropology and Geography, choosing at the end of his second year to do his Honours Degree in Geography, graduating with a 2:1.

On entry to St. Andrews Miss Middleton chose Art History, Social Anthropology and Classics, choosing at the end of her second year to do her Honours Degree in Art History, graduating with a 2:1.
